Negotiations on the FY 2024-25 state budget went into overtime this year blowing past the March 31, 2024, deadline, which coincided with the Easter holiday. The Legislature finished passing the budget bills
on Saturday, April 20, 2024.
Three major issues were at the center of negotiations that delayed passage, including affordable housing, funding for education and funding for Medicaid and health care. In the interim, the Legislature had to pass five budget extenders to keep the government open and state employees paid on time.
